When Tenchi Masaki accidentally disturbs their family shrine, he unknowingly frees the demon Ryoko from her long imprisonment. He also triggers the arrival of several female aliens towards earth: the Juraian princesses Aeka and Sasami, Galaxy Policeperson Mihoshi, and the 20,000 year old scientist Washu. Also along for the ride is their cute spaceship/cabbit Ryo-ohki.

But the Space Pirate Kagato appears and attempts to wrest the Juraian weapon from them, threatening to destroy the earth in the process. Tenchi soon discovers his alien heritage and hidden abilities, which will be put to the test if the earth is to be saved. The unique character and mecha designs made this one of the few successful OVAs to gain popularity enough to become a TV series.
