In another fantastic film produced by Hayao Miyazaki, Mimi o Sumaseba (literally translated as "If you listen closely" but known by the english title "Whispers of the Heart") is the bright, carefree story of a young girl named Shizuku Tsukishima. One day while running an errand for her father, Shizuku meets Moon, a fat, stray cat. As she follows him home, she finds an eccentric antique store in the plush neighborhood near the library.

Here she meets Seiji Amasawa, a young violinist who wants to improve his skills by attending a school in Italy. Inspired by his determination, Shizuku sets off to write a novel of her own. As she works day and night busily crafting her story, she learns to believe in herself, and that while it is important to pursue your dreams, one still has responsibilities that must not be forsaken.
